Travelers’ it’s time to get your Real ID. Plan on flying domestically? Due to COVID, the original deadline to obtain a Real ID has been extended until May 3, 2023. After that date every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States.
To tell if you already have Real ID look at your driver’s license for that star in the upper righthand corner. Several states issue a traditional driver’s license and a Real ID, others now issue just a Real ID. Check with your state’s driver’s license agency for clarification.
Even if you have TSA PreCheck®, you’ll still need a REAL ID or other acceptable form of ID.
International travelers will still need a passport to fly. Your passport can be used at TSA checkpoints.
For travelers planning to enroll in the CLEAR program a Real ID or passport is required. CLEAR is the biometric identification program available at several airports throughout the United States.
