Located along the pristine shores of Montego Bay, the iconic Half Moon Jamaica resort has embarked on a transformative renovation journey that promises to redefine luxury and comfort. As the resort approaches its 70th anniversary, it has announced a series of extensive upgrades to its Rose Hall Villas, marking a new era of elegance and exclusivity.

The Rose Hall Villas, renowned for their privacy and bespoke services, are set to undergo a complete modernization. The project, spearheaded by the esteemed design firm Atelier-Vidal, aims to enhance the guest experience while preserving the architectural integrity and Jamaican design inspirations that have long defined the resort.

Guests can anticipate fresh layouts that optimize ocean views, expansive glass-pane doors, and open-concept living spaces that seamlessly blend with the lush tropical surroundings. The villas will boast modern furnishings with tropical textures, neutral color palettes, and subtle regional accents, creating an ambiance of sophisticated island living.

Outdoor enhancements include upgraded pool experiences with cabanas featuring large screen TVs, grills, and expanded seating for alfresco dining and entertainment. Several villas will also feature new infinity edge pools that offer breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea.

The interior transformations are equally impressive, with the addition of family game rooms, state-of-the-art appliances, and luxurious bathroom upgrades. The first phase of the redesign will see 11 villas revitalized between April and November 2024, ensuring completion in time for the festive holiday season.

This renovation is part of a continuum of improvements at Half Moon, which includes the recent refurbishment of its Hibiscus neighborhood and the celebrated 2020 opening of Eclipse at Half Moon, a property that has garnered international acclaim.

Half Moon Jamaica has a rich history that dates back to the early 1950s. It was established when a group of American, British, and Bermudian entrepreneurs, who were enchanted by Jamaica’s North Coast during their winter holidays, decided to create a permanent winter retreat for their families and friends.

The resort officially opened on February 27, 1954, after these 17 investors purchased 35 acres of land on a crescent-shaped bay that was once the loading dock for Rose Hall’s sugar shipments. The name “Half Moon” was inspired by the bay’s beach.

The resort started with 17 whitewashed cottages and 30 beachfront rooms, and over the years, it has hosted numerous luminaries, including HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, and John F. Kennedy, among others.

Today, Half Moon continues to be a landmark for world-class hospitality, with ongoing commitments to luxury and excellence. The resort has expanded and evolved, offering a variety of experiences across its 400 acres, including the award-winning Fern Tree Spa, a championship golf course, and an equestrian center. It stands as a testament to the vision of its founders and the enduring appeal of Jamaican hospitality.

As Half Moon continues to evolve, it remains committed to delivering an unparalleled guest experience that honors its storied past while embracing the future of luxury travel in Jamaica.
