Are you itching to fly somewhere, anywhere, but afraid of increased exposure to the coronavirus? Well, Emirates Airlines has a solution that just might give you a measure of added protection and peace of mind.

The airline now allows economy class passengers to book that adjacent empty seat for additional social distancing. Will this move reduce your angst about COVID-19? That’s up to you to decided, but here’s what you need to know.

Confirmed economy class passengers will have the option to pay for up to three adjoining seats before boarding their flight. But like everything with air travel there is a catch. You will only be able to book those empty seats once you’re at the airport check-in counter just prior to departure.

Are you a couple looking for that empty middle seat or traveling with an infant and want a row to yourself. This could be the ticket (pardon the pun) to allay those COVID-19 fears during flight.

The adjoining empty seats are available on select flights and subject to availability. Prices run between $55 and $165 per flight, plus tax.

This new rule change came about thanks to a recent passenger survey that revealed their desire for extra privacy and space.
